Remove the hidden data in your photos and PDFs

Photos and documents carry details you can't see: where a photo was taken, which phone took it, who wrote a document and what was deleted from it. Unmarked shows you what's there and removes it.

Your files never leave this device. Nothing is uploaded.

Why use it

  • Selling something online. A photo of the item, taken at home, can show exactly where you live.
  • Photos of your children. Pictures taken at home, school or the park can reveal where they spend their days.
  • Sending files, not posting them. Big social networks usually remove hidden data, but email, cloud links, “send as file” in chat apps, and many forums and marketplaces pass it on untouched.
  • Documents for a landlord, employer or school. A PDF can carry your name, the computer it was made on, comments, and earlier versions with text you deleted.
  • Job applications. A CV made from an old template can still carry a previous author's name or your current employer's.
  • Meeting people online. Photos for a dating profile or a new contact can give away your home or workplace.
  • Reporting something anonymously. A photo or document can say which phone or computer made it, and who owns it.

What Unmarked can't remove

  • What you can see. Faces, street signs, house numbers, number plates, reflections and text in the picture or on the page stay as they are. Crop or cover them first.
  • Your phone's own records. Your gallery, cloud backups and the original file keep their data. Unmarked makes a clean copy; it doesn't change the original.
  • Clues in the content itself. Writing style, tracked changes already accepted into a document, or a scan's visible stamps and signatures.

No guarantee. Unmarked is free software provided as it is, without any warranty. It removes the hidden data it knows about, but no tool can promise to find everything. Check the clean copy before you share anything sensitive. You are responsible for what you share, and Anonaconda Code Lab accepts no liability for any loss or harm from using this app.
